HUX is a support network and promotion company for women and LGBTQ musicians. Our aim is to help, encourage, promote and present talented musicians in and around Manchester. Founder Zara Huxley talks about the launch night and the conception of HUX.
We are putting on our first gig at Gullivers Lounge on the 8th of November, to raise awareness and money for women musicians and the LGBTQ community. It is only £3 in advance and OTD; £1 off each ticket will be donated to the charities, Brighter Sound and LGBT Foundation. Four amazing acoustic acts will play on the night; The Four Corners, Ellis and Evie, Jasmine Page and Libby O’Brien. The gig will be a mix of laid-back indie and R&B tunes, that you don’t want to miss.
I created the idea of HUX before I started university. Throughout my life, I have struggled as a bisexual woman who has always loved singing and playing instruments. Now, I’m also an aspiring journalist and promoter, which has fortunately allowed me to meet many inspirational artists and bands who are trying to make it in the music industry. Speaking with these bands and artists, they have told me about their struggles as musicians. Many have found it difficult and challenging, not only as a local artist but as a woman or person that is part of the LGBT community trying to make it in the industry. So, I want to change that. I don’t want HUX to just be a promotion company, I want it to also be a forever expanding safe space. A place which is filled with love and respect. Where people can express their true authentic selves without any judgement. Where we can all help each other.
Come and join us on our journey. Help us tackle the many issues women and LGBT musicians face. Help us get them heard! Get tickets to or gig on the 8th of November via the event page and Ticketweb.
