It’s the first time I have ever been to a concert where the support act was a screen showing the football. However, England bringing it home by winning a penalty shootout got everyone geared up for an epic set from Miles Kane, even if it did mean he came on stage a little later than expected.
Miles Kane has a knack for writing catchy tunes with incredible riffs and his setlist at Brudenell Social Club highlighted his songwriting talent. Miles launched into the set with the electrifying ‘Inhaler’, strutting across the stage and telling the rowdy crowd to “fucking sing it” with him. Kane treated the audience to classics such as ‘Rearrange’ and ‘Give Up’, whilst also performing tunes from his new album Coup de Grace. This included the title track and his recently released single ‘Loaded’, a collaboration with none other than Lana Del Rey and Jamie T. Much to the delight of the crowd, Miles also did a surprising rendition of Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’ that got everyone dancing despite it being so tightly packed.
Miles Kane sold out shows for his summer tour dates in minutes. He certainly has a loyal fanbase and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout the gig. Amongst the incessant cheers of “Miles, Miles, Miles fucking Kane”, he parted the audience and submerged himself amongst his fans, all before being carried back to the stage. Kane certainly knows how to work an audience as he shook fans’ hands, took videos with people’s phones, wore an audience member’s sunglasses and hugged a crowd surfer who announced it was her birthday.
Miles closed his set with ‘Come Closer’, the unmistakable riff getting everyone cheering as the perfect end to an incredible gig.
