Josey Marina – Violet Desires EP Review

Dreamy pop from Stockport proving that the Manchester music scene is alive and well.

Eclectic singer songwriter Josey Marina’s sophomore EP, Violet Desires, is a mellow offering that needs to be heard. Taking inspiration from Lana Del Rey, Grimes and London Grammar, this EP is a stunning triumph.

The opener, “Moon”, is easily one of the EP’s high points. There is a real euphoric yet mysterious feeling with this track, from the rhythmic acoustic guitar, to the heavenly synth in the chorus. The track has a very Warpaint-esque feel to it, which can only be a good thing.

Another particular highlight is the closer to the 4 track EP; “Ocean Sighs”. The percussion provides a really interesting backbone to which the synth pads and XX style guitar lines are added. All this is topped off with Josey’s dulcet vocal lines, which really make this track send you to another place.

If you like artists such as: London Grammar, Lana Del Rey, The XX, Warpaint, Grimes and Elbow then you will really enjoy this EP. The dreamy synth pads and guitar lines will have you hooked from the beginning and once you finish listening, you’ll want to play it again. We can’t wait to see what else Josey Marina has for us in the future.
